The capital's AQI remained in the poor range today, prompting health advisories and urging residents to limit outdoor activities.
The National Air Quality Monitoring Programme reported that Delhi's air quality index (AQI) continued to sit in the 'poor' category today, with the composite value hovering around 200, well above the safe threshold of 100.
The high pollution levels are linked to a mix of vehicular emissions, construction dust and stagnant atmospheric conditions that impede dispersion, officials said. Prolonged exposure could exacerbate respiratory ailments.
The Delhi government issued health advisories, urging vulnerable groups such as children, the elderly and people with pre‑existing heart or lung conditions to stay indoors, wear N95 masks if they must go out, and keep windows closed. Schools and outdoor events have been advised to postpone or relocate.
The Pollution Control Board is closely monitoring the situation and has ordered additional dust‑suppression measures, including water sprinkling on major roads and temporary restrictions on construction work during peak hours.
Residents are asked to stay updated through official channels and adopt personal precautions until the AQI improves.
