Delhi police have filed a first information report against an independent female journalist and several others in connection with a protest held near Jantar Mantar earlier this month, while also taking disciplinary action against an ACP for alleged casteist remarks.

Delhi police on Tuesday lodged a first information report (FIR) against an independent female journalist and a number of other participants following a demonstration that took place near Jantar Mantar in early May. The FIR alleges that the individuals were involved in activities that violated public order provisions.

The journalist, identified only as a female reporter working for a freelance outlet, was named among those accused of inciting unrest during the protest. Police officials said that the FIR also covers several unnamed persons who were present at the rally.

In a separate development, the police announced internal action against an Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) after a complaint was filed alleging that the officer made caste‑based slurs during the same incident. The department has ordered a departmental inquiry and temporarily relieved the officer of his duties.

A police spokesperson reiterated that the FIR and the disciplinary probe are routine procedures aimed at maintaining law and order. The spokesperson declined to comment on the specifics of the alleged casteist remark.

Journalist unions and civil‑rights groups have called for a transparent investigation, urging authorities to balance enforcement with freedom of expression. They have also demanded that any disciplinary action against the ACP be swift and impartial.
