Delhi police have filed an abetment‑to‑suicide case following the death of a student from the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi.

Delhi police have formally registered a case of abetment to suicide in connection with the recent death of a student of the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi. The registration was announced by a senior police official who said the investigation had uncovered evidence suggesting possible involvement of another party in the student’s demise.

The deceased was a regular undergraduate/graduate student at IIT Delhi, and the circumstances of the death have prompted a criminal probe rather than a routine suicide inquiry. Investigators are examining the student’s personal and academic interactions to identify any individual or group that may have encouraged or facilitated the act.

Under Section 306 of the Indian Penal Code, abetment to suicide is a non‑bailable offence carrying a maximum sentence of ten years’ imprisonment. Police have indicated that they will summon any persons of interest for questioning and will submit a charge sheet once the forensic and testimonial evidence is compiled.
