The Delhi Police released detailed guidelines on organizing protests, outlining the notice period for permission and the approved locations, in compliance with a Supreme Court directive.
The Delhi Police has issued comprehensive instructions governing public protests, responding to a recent Supreme Court order that called for clearer regulation of dharnas.
According to the new guidelines, any group planning a dharna must obtain written permission from the police a few days before the intended date. The notice must detail the purpose, expected turnout, and proposed location of the protest.
The police also listed specific areas within the capital where dharnas may be conducted, aiming to balance the right to peaceful assembly with public order and traffic management. Organisers are advised to adhere strictly to these designated sites.
Authorities said the measures are intended to prevent spontaneous gatherings that could disrupt essential services while ensuring that citizens can exercise their democratic rights within a regulated framework.
