The centre has ordered a 15‑day construction ban across Delhi‑NCR from 5 Nov and confirmed that existing vehicle‑rationing rules will stay in force.
The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs announced a blanket 15‑day suspension of all construction activities in Delhi and the National Capital Region, effective from 5 November. The directive covers both new projects and ongoing works, with contractors instructed to secure sites and halt any on‑site activity.
Officials said the ban is aimed at reducing particulate matter and other pollutants that typically rise during the winter months, thereby improving air quality for residents.
At the same time, the central government rejected calls to roll back the odd‑even vehicle rationing scheme, confirming that the existing restrictions on private‑car usage will continue unchanged.
Authorities warned that any violation of the construction freeze or vehicle rules could attract penalties, and urged citizens and developers to cooperate for a cleaner winter season.
