New Delhi-NCR pollution guidelines prohibit diesel and petrol cars older than 15 years, require half the workforce to work from home and tighten commuter restrictions.

The National Capital Region has rolled out a stringent set of measures aimed at reducing air‑quality deterioration. Vehicles powered by diesel or petrol that are older than fifteen years are now barred from entering the region, a move officials say will cut particulate emissions significantly.

Employers across the NCR are instructed to ensure that at least half of their staff work remotely, a policy designed to lower peak‑hour traffic volumes. The government has also introduced tighter controls on commuter routes, limiting the number of private vehicles allowed on major arteries during rush hour.

Transport authorities will enforce the vehicle ban through automated number‑plate recognition systems and on‑spot penalties. The work‑from‑home directive will be monitored by departmental heads, with non‑compliance potentially attracting administrative action. These combined actions are projected to bring the Air Quality Index down to safer levels within the next few weeks.
