All Delhi Metro stations will cease operations at 9 pm today as authorities respond to an anti‑Election Commission protest, with services to resume once the situation normalises.
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) announced that every metro station in the national capital will stop service at 9 pm today. The decision comes in response to a protest against the Election Commission (EC) that began earlier in the evening.
DMRC officials said the closure will remain in effect until the authorities deem the situation normalised. Commuters have been urged to use alternative transport such as buses, auto‑rickshaws and private vehicles for the remainder of the night.
The anti‑EC demonstration, organised by civil‑society groups, has drawn crowds near several metro stations, prompting concerns about passenger safety and crowd control. No injuries have been reported so far.
A spokesperson for the DMRC reiterated that safety remains the top priority and that regular train services will resume as soon as the protest disperses and normal conditions return.
