The Delhi government’s Master Plan 2047 outlines the construction of 4 million new residential units and a metro network expansion to 695 km.
The Delhi Administration has unveiled its Master Plan 2047, a long‑term blueprint aimed at addressing the capital’s rapid population growth. Central to the plan is the provision of 4 million new housing units, a figure that translates to roughly 40 lakh homes across the city and its adjoining regions.
In parallel, the plan earmarks a substantial expansion of the Delhi Metro, targeting a total network length of 695 kilometres. This would involve new corridors, extensions of existing lines, and integration with emerging transit hubs to improve connectivity for commuters.
Officials say the dual focus on housing and mass transit is intended to create balanced, sustainable urban development, reducing pressure on existing infrastructure while accommodating future demand. The Master Plan 2047 will be reviewed periodically to align with demographic and economic shifts.
Implementation is expected to be phased over the next two decades, with priority given to areas identified as high‑density zones. The government has pledged to coordinate with private developers and financial institutions to mobilise the required investment.
Stakeholders have welcomed the roadmap but have also called for transparent land‑acquisition processes and affordable pricing mechanisms to ensure the benefits reach lower‑income groups.
