A dance teacher from Okhla, Delhi, plunged into the Yamuna river after struggling to pay his iPhone installments; police rescued him and his family was later reunited with him at the station.

Deepak Kumar, a dance instructor residing in the Okhla area of Delhi, entered the Yamuna river on Tuesday after reporting that he could not meet the monthly instalments for his newly purchased iPhone. Witnesses say he appeared distressed and stepped into the water near a busy stretch of the river. Patrol police on duty spotted the incident and immediately informed the flood‑control department. A rescue team was dispatched within minutes, reaching the spot and pulling Kumar safely onto the riverbank. After being brought ashore, the man received brief counselling from officials and was taken to the nearby police station where his family arrived shortly thereafter. The incident highlights growing financial pressures among urban consumers and the prompt response of Delhi’s emergency services.
