Anticipating a rise in injuries during the Diwali celebrations, Delhi's major hospitals have readied additional beds and medical staff.
Delhi's health authorities have instructed leading hospitals to expand their emergency capacity ahead of the Diwali festival. Additional beds have been set up in intensive care and trauma units, and extra doctors, including surgeons and emergency physicians, have been posted to handle any surge in patients.
The hospitals are coordinating with the municipal health department to ensure that supplies such as oxygen cylinders, medicines and ambulances are readily available. Staff have also undergone refresher drills on managing mass-casualty incidents, a precaution taken after past festivals saw spikes in fire‑related and blast injuries.
Officials have appealed to the public to observe fire safety, avoid overcrowding, and seek immediate medical help if injured. The proactive measures aim to reduce response times and prevent the health system from being overwhelmed during the country's biggest celebration.
The initiative reflects a broader city‑wide effort to keep Diwali safe, with police, fire services and civic bodies also stepping up patrols and awareness campaigns.
