The Delhi High Court observed that many road users across India routinely flout traffic regulations, urging stricter enforcement to curb accidents.

The Delhi High Court, addressing a petition related to road safety, remarked that a significant proportion of Indian road users fail to comply with established traffic norms. The bench highlighted recurring violations such as ignoring signal lights, overspeeding, and not wearing helmets, which contribute to the country's high accident rates.

Judges emphasized that the pattern of non‑compliance is not confined to any single region but is a nationwide concern, reflecting a broader cultural attitude towards traffic discipline. They called for more rigorous enforcement mechanisms, including increased police presence and the use of technology like traffic cameras.

The court also urged state governments and municipal bodies to launch sustained awareness campaigns aimed at changing driver behavior. It warned that without decisive action, the loss of lives and property on Indian roads will continue to rise.

While the ruling did not prescribe specific penalties, it signaled the judiciary's willingness to intervene in traffic governance and support legislative efforts to strengthen road safety laws.
