The Delhi High Court has instructed the Wrestling Federation of India to resolve the show‑cause notices issued to wrestler Vinesh Phogat within 14 days, emphasizing that athletes must be in a fit and relaxed state of mind to compete.

The Delhi High Court intervened after the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) sent show‑cause notices to Olympic‑medallist wrestler Vinesh Phogat over alleged disciplinary breaches. The court directed the federation to examine the notices and deliver a final decision within a fortnight.

In its order, the bench highlighted that a sportsperson’s mental well‑being is crucial for performance, stating that any punitive action must not compromise the athlete’s ability to compete in a relaxed and focused state.

Legal experts note that the directive puts pressure on the WFI to act swiftly, as prolonged uncertainty could affect Phogat’s preparation for upcoming international events. The federation is expected to convene its disciplinary committee and communicate its findings to the court by the stipulated deadline.

The ruling also serves as a reminder to sports bodies across India that procedural fairness and athlete welfare are integral to disciplinary processes, especially when high‑profile competitors are involved.
