Delhi's municipal authority unveiled a new initiative that will equip 2.3 lakh residential units with solar photovoltaic panels at no cost to the owners. The scheme, slated to use up to 400 solar panel units, aims to boost renewable energy adoption and cut household electricity expenses.
The rollout will be coordinated through the Delhi Electricity Board, which will handle procurement, installation and after‑sales service. Eligible families will be identified based on income criteria and existing electricity consumption patterns, ensuring that the benefits reach low‑ and middle‑income neighborhoods.
Funding for the project comes from the state’s clean‑energy budget, supplemented by central government incentives for solar adoption. Officials expect the first phase to be completed within the next six months, after which the impact on grid load and carbon emissions will be monitored.
