The Delhi government has unveiled a rehabilitation policy that aims to provide permanent homes to about two million slum dwellers by 2025.

Delhi’s municipal administration released a comprehensive rehabilitation plan targeting residents of informal settlements across the capital. The scheme, slated for implementation by 2025, promises to construct solid‑structure houses for an estimated two million people currently living in slums.

Under the policy, eligible families will receive ownership of newly built units, with the government covering construction costs and providing financial assistance for relocation. The initiative also includes provisions for basic amenities such as water, electricity, and sanitation to ensure safe living conditions.

Officials said the program aligns with the city’s broader objective of eradicating substandard housing and improving urban infrastructure. The rollout will be phased, beginning with high‑density colonies, and will involve coordination between the Delhi Development Authority and local ward offices.

The announcement has been welcomed by housing activists, who view it as a significant step toward addressing the chronic shortage of affordable, dignified housing in the national capital.
