The Delhi administration has postponed the launch of its new electronic challan platform after the bar association raised concerns over procedural and legal safeguards.
The Delhi government announced today that the implementation of its newly designed electronic challan system will be put on hold. The decision comes after the Delhi Bar Association formally expressed reservations about the system's legal and procedural framework.
The proposed platform was intended to digitise traffic and other municipal fines, allowing instant payment through mobile apps and online portals. Advocates argued that the draft guidelines did not adequately protect citizens' right to contest fines and lacked clear grievance redressal mechanisms.
A senior official from the Transport Department said the government will revisit the draft rules in consultation with legal experts and the bar body before any further rollout. No new timeline has been provided, and the existing manual challan process will continue for the time being.
