On Ekda Diwas, officials in Delhi inaugurated a ‘Run for Unity’, hoisting the national flag to promote communal harmony across the country.
Delhi marked Ekta Diwas on Saturday by officially flagging off a "Run for Unity" from the Rashtrapati Bhavan grounds. The ceremony featured the unfurling of the Indian tricolour by senior government officials, signalling the start of a city‑wide marathon aimed at reinforcing communal harmony.
The run, organized by the Ministry of Culture in partnership with the Delhi Police, will cover a 10‑kilometre route that passes through historic landmarks such as India Gate, Connaught Place and the Red Fort. Thousands of participants, including school children, senior citizens and members of various community groups, are expected to join the event.
Authorities said the initiative seeks to translate the spirit of Ekta Diwas into a tangible public activity, encouraging citizens to walk together irrespective of religion, language or region. A senior Ministry of Culture spokesperson emphasized that the run is a "symbolic stride towards national unity".
The flag‑off ceremony also highlighted upcoming celebrations, notably the Ekta Parv scheduled in Kevadia, Gujarat, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi will preside. While the Delhi run focuses on grassroots participation, the Kevadia event will showcase larger cultural performances.
Organizers expect the run to foster a sense of shared identity among participants and to set a precedent for similar unity‑focused events in other states.
