Delhi DTC Conductors Strike Over Half Salary Payments by Contractors

Conductors of Delhi Transport Corporation have staged a strike, alleging that private contractors pay only half of their salaries and issue 8‑10 short‑term contracts each year.
Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) workers began a walkout on Monday after conductors complained that the private firms handling their payroll provide only fifty percent of the agreed wages. The conductors said the contractors also renew their employment through eight to ten short‑term contracts annually, leaving them with job insecurity.
Union representatives met with DTC officials, demanding that the contractors honor full salary payments and offer longer‑term contracts. The officials said they are reviewing the grievances and will discuss the matter with the contracting agencies.
The strike has disrupted several bus routes across the capital, affecting commuters who rely on DTC services for daily travel. Authorities have urged passengers to use alternative transport options until the dispute is resolved.
No violence has been reported, and both sides have expressed willingness to negotiate, hoping for a swift settlement to restore normal bus operations.
