Delhi police have linked the Intelligent Traffic Management System to send instant alerts when a vehicle is reported stolen, aiming to deter thieves.

The Delhi Police announced that the city’s Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS) will now generate immediate alerts whenever a vehicle theft is reported. The integration allows real-time transmission of the stolen vehicle’s location to patrol units, helping officers respond faster.

ITMS, originally deployed to monitor traffic flow and enforce regulations, has been upgraded to include a theft‑detection module. When a car is flagged as stolen in the police database, the system automatically notifies nearby traffic cameras and control rooms, creating a digital trail that can be followed by enforcement teams.

Officials said the new capability is expected to make vehicle theft more difficult, as thieves can no longer rely on the anonymity of the city’s streets. The alert mechanism also informs the vehicle owner of the vehicle’s last known position, improving the chances of recovery.

The rollout is part of a broader effort to leverage technology for crime prevention in the capital, complementing existing surveillance and rapid‑response measures.
