A Delhi court has publicly reprimanded the police for the extended delay in processing an MCOCA case, calling the delay a "mere eyewash" and urging swift action.

The Delhi High Court, in a recent order, sharply criticized the police for the protracted delay in handling a case under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA). The judge described the delay as a "mere eyewash" and highlighted the need for timely processing of such serious offences.
The case, which involves allegations of organised crime, has been pending for several months despite repeated requests for action. The court noted that the delay undermines the rule of law and erodes public confidence in law‑enforcement agencies.
In its directive, the court ordered the police to file a detailed progress report within 48 hours and to expedite the investigation. It also warned that any further delay could result in contempt proceedings.
Police officials have yet to respond formally to the court’s remarks, but the incident has drawn attention to the broader issue of case backlogs in Delhi’s criminal justice system.
