Delhi's air quality has deteriorated to toxic levels, with PM2.5 concentrations soaring, prompting health warnings from authorities.

Delhi’s air quality has reached toxic levels after a sharp rise in fine particulate matter (PM2.5) readings, according to the city’s air monitoring network. The spike has prompted the Delhi Pollution Control Committee to issue a health advisory, urging residents to limit outdoor activities and wear masks.

Health officials warn that prolonged exposure to high PM2.5 concentrations can aggravate respiratory and cardiovascular conditions, especially among vulnerable groups such as children, the elderly, and those with pre‑existing illnesses.

The committee has called for stricter enforcement of vehicular emission norms and a temporary reduction in industrial activity in the city’s most polluted zones. It also recommended that schools and offices adopt flexible work arrangements to reduce commuter traffic.

The Chief Minister’s office has pledged to intensify clean‑air measures and will review the situation on a daily basis, with the aim of bringing the pollution index back to safer levels as soon as possible.
