Defence Minister Rajnath Singh visited the HAL Sunabeda facility and laid the foundation stone for the new Shakti Engine plant, marking a significant step in India's aerospace manufacturing ambitions.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh visited the Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) plant at Sunabeda in Telangana on Tuesday, where he laid the foundation stone for the upcoming Shakti Engine facility.
The ceremony, attended by HAL officials and local dignitaries, saw the minister cutting a steel rod to mark the beginning of the project, which is expected to boost domestic engine production.
The Shakti Engine plant is part of HAL's broader plan to enhance indigenous aerospace capabilities, reducing reliance on foreign suppliers for critical components.
Officials said the facility will create jobs and support the development of next‑generation aircraft engines for the Indian Armed Forces.
