The Mahakal Temple in Ujjain inaugurated its Deepotsav by lighting a single fuljhari for the Baba’s ash aarti, while fireworks remain banned within the temple complex.
Ujjain's historic Mahakal Temple marked the opening of its annual Deepotsav today by lighting a single fuljhari as part of the Baba Mahakal ash aarti. The ceremony was conducted in accordance with long‑standing temple tradition, which calls for one firecracker to be lit for each aarti performed during the festival.
Temple authorities reiterated that, despite the festive atmosphere, the use of fireworks is prohibited inside the temple precincts and the adjoining Mahakal Mahalok area. This restriction aims to preserve the sanctity of the site and ensure safety for the devotees gathered for the celebrations.
During the ash aarti, the idol of Baba Mahakal was specially adorned with bhang, a silver crown and a mund mala, adding a distinctive ceremonial touch. The decorations were intended to honor the deity and enhance the spiritual significance of the ritual.
The event was accompanied by chants of "Jai Ho" from the assembled crowd, creating a resonant atmosphere throughout the temple complex as the Deepotsav officially commenced.
