A deep depression over South Odisha has begun to weaken, but the India Meteorological Department has maintained a red warning for the districts of Nabarangpur, Kalahandi and Koraput as heavy rainfall and strong winds are expected.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported that a deep depression that formed over the southern part of Odisha is losing intensity as it moves inland. Satellite imagery and surface observations show a gradual rise in central pressure and a reduction in convective activity, indicating that the system is weakening.
Despite the weakening trend, the IMD has retained a red warning for the districts of Nabarangpur, Kalahandi and Koraput. These areas are expected to receive intense rainfall, with accumulations of up to 150 mm in 24 hours, along with gusty winds that could exceed 50 km/h.
Local authorities in the three districts have been instructed to activate emergency response teams, clear drainage channels, and ensure that relief shelters are ready for any displaced residents. The warning also advises farmers to secure crops and livestock against potential damage.
