Dausa water tankers halt over ₹4 crore payment dispute, city faces supply crunch

Tankers delivering drinking water in Dausa have stopped operations after contractors claim the water department has not paid about ₹4 crore since April, deepening the city's water shortage.
The municipal water department in Dausa, Rajasthan, announced that tanker services supplying drinking water have been suspended indefinitely. Contractors responsible for operating the tankers say they have not received any payments since April 2024, amounting to roughly four crore rupees.
According to the contractors, the unpaid dues have forced them to cease all tanker movements, leaving thousands of households without a reliable water source. Residents reported that taps have run dry and that the city’s water reservoirs are insufficient to meet daily demand without the tankers.
The water department has not issued an official response to the claim, but officials indicated that they are reviewing the payment backlog. Local authorities warned that the situation could worsen if the dispute is not resolved promptly, urging both sides to negotiate a settlement to restore water supply.
