Madhya Pradesh authorities used data analytics to detect a large-scale misappropriation of public funds, filing FIRs against over 530 individuals and recovering Rs 223 crore.
The state's finance department teamed up with a data-analytics unit to scan transactions and identify irregularities in public-fund allocations. The systematic review flagged dozens of suspicious accounts, leading investigators to file first-information reports against more than 530 persons suspected of embezzlement.
Officials disclosed that the probe has already resulted in the recovery of approximately Rs 223 crore, which has been deposited back into the state treasury.
The use of advanced analytics marks a shift in how Indian state governments monitor financial integrity, aiming to deter future fraud and improve transparency.
Senior officials said the operation will continue, with further audits planned to uncover any remaining discrepancies.
