Meteorological officials warn that Cyclone Murasu is set to bring intense rain to Odisha's coastal districts.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an alert for Cyclone Murasu, which is expected to make landfall along Odisha's coastline within the next 24 hours.
The system, currently positioned over the Bay of Bengal, is projected to intensify to a severe cyclonic storm, bringing sustained winds of up to 120 km/h and widespread rainfall exceeding 150 mm in some areas.
Authorities in Odisha have activated disaster response teams, ordered pre‑emptive evacuation in vulnerable low‑lying villages, and urged residents to stay indoors, secure property, and follow official instructions.
The IMD has advised that transportation services, especially coastal ferries and flights, may face disruptions, and power utilities are on standby to address potential outages.
The situation will be monitored continuously, with updates expected every six hours as the cyclone progresses inland.
