The meteorological department has placed a rain alert on 27 districts of Madhya Pradesh as Cyclone Arnab loses intensity.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a rain alert covering 27 districts across Madhya Pradesh after Cyclone Arnab began to weaken over the region. The cyclone, which formed in the Bay of Bengal, is now moving north‑westward and losing its core strength, prompting authorities to focus on potential heavy showers rather than severe winds.

Residents of districts such as Bhopal, Indore, Jabalpur and Gwalior have been advised to stay prepared for sudden downpours and possible localized flooding. Local administration teams are on standby to clear drainage channels and to assist communities in vulnerable areas.

The IMD has warned that while the cyclone's wind speeds are expected to drop below cyclone‑level thresholds, intermittent rain could persist for the next 48 hours. Authorities have urged people to avoid non‑essential travel in affected zones and to follow updates from official channels.

No immediate threat of a cyclone‑scale storm is forecast for the state, but the rain alert remains in force until the system moves further north and dissipates over central India.
