Cyclone Arnab has weakened as it moves away from the Indian coast, but authorities in Andhra Pradesh and Odisha continue to issue rain alerts for the next 24 hours.
Cyclone Arnab, which had threatened the eastern coast of India earlier this week, has weakened significantly as it moves northward. Meteorological officials report that the system has lost much of its intensity and is no longer a major threat to the mainland. Despite the downgrade, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has kept rain alerts in force for the states of Andhra Pradesh and Odisha for the next 24 hours. Residents in coastal districts are advised to stay alert for heavy showers and possible flooding. Local authorities have mobilised emergency teams and set up temporary shelters in anticipation of the residual rainfall.
