Cyclone Arnab is moving towards the Andhra Pradesh coastline, with forecasts of wind speeds reaching 140 km per hour and heavy rainfall expected across ten states.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an alert as Cyclone Arnab tracks westward across the Bay of Bengal toward the Andhra Pradesh shoreline. Forecast models indicate that the system could generate sustained winds of up to 140 kilometres per hour as it nears the coast.

Meteorologists warn that the cyclone will bring widespread rainfall to a broad swath of the country, affecting ten states from the east coast to interior regions. Heavy downpours are expected to begin later today and could persist for several days, raising the risk of flooding and landslides in vulnerable areas.

Authorities in Andhra Pradesh have begun pre‑emptive measures, including the mobilisation of disaster‑response teams, reinforcement of coastal embankments, and advisories for residents to secure property and avoid non‑essential travel. The IMD will continue to update forecasts as the system evolves.

The public is urged to stay tuned to official bulletins, heed evacuation orders if issued, and prepare emergency kits containing food, water, medicines and essential documents.

The cyclone’s trajectory and intensity remain subject to change, and the IMD has pledged to issue further warnings should conditions deteriorate.
