Cyber scammers swindle Rs 6.71 lakh in Samastipur using stolen identities

In Samastipur, cyber fraudsters duped three victims of a total of Rs 6.71 lakh by misusing personal photos, threatening tactics and false official references.
Samastipur, Bihar, witnessed a coordinated cyber fraud in which three individuals lost a combined amount of Rs 6.71 lakh. The perpetrators exploited personal data, including photographs of acquaintances, to convince one victim to transfer Rs 2.52 lakh under the pretense of a legitimate request.
A second victim was coerced through promises of quick profit and intimidation, resulting in a loss of Rs 3.99 lakh. The fraudsters threatened the victim with unspecified consequences if the money was not sent.
The third case involved a businessman who was approached with a claim that a government official required a payment of Rs 20,000 to facilitate a business matter. Believing the request to be authentic, the businessman complied, completing the final portion of the scam.
Local law enforcement has been alerted to the incident, and investigations are underway to trace the digital footprints of the scammers. Authorities have urged residents to verify the identity of callers and to refrain from sharing personal photographs or financial details online.
