BDO Ashok Kumar of Banmanakhi in Purnia district had his WhatsApp account compromised by cyber fraudsters, according to reports from Amar Ujala.
The attackers sent messages to his contacts, claiming an emergency and demanding Rs 2,000 from each recipient.
Several acquaintances received the messages and called the BDO to confirm the authenticity.
In response, Ashok Kumar released a video on social media, urging people not to send money and to verify any such requests before acting.
