Researchers at CT University’s Robotics and Automation Lab in Ludhiana have created smart shoes that can alert emergency services when the wearer moves their foot in a threatening situation.
The Robotics and Automation Laboratory at CT University in Ludhiana announced the completion of a prototype smart shoe designed for personal safety. The footwear incorporates sensors that detect sudden movements or gestures indicative of a threat, and automatically transmits an emergency alert to pre‑registered contacts or rescue services.
Unlike conventional safety gear, the shoes are intended to be worn daily, offering discreet protection without hindering mobility. The system can be activated simply by a specific foot motion, allowing users to signal for help even when their hands are occupied or they are unable to speak.
The university plans to conduct field trials later this year and explore commercial production, aiming to enhance emergency response capabilities across campuses and public spaces.
