The Centre for Students Union (CSU) has warned that protests could intensify over the stalled construction of a key highway in Nagaland, citing delays that have frustrated local communities.
The Centre for Students Union (CSU), a prominent student body in Nagaland, issued a statement on Thursday warning that the delay in the construction of the Dimapur–Kohima highway could trigger further agitation among residents and students.
The highway, part of the national road network, was slated to be completed by the end of 2022 but has yet to see significant progress, according to state officials.
Local communities have expressed frustration over the lack of jobs and improved connectivity that the road was supposed to bring, with several protests already taking place in the capital, Kohima.
CSU has called on the state government and the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways to expedite the project and has offered to mediate between stakeholders to prevent escalation.
