Former CRPF havildar Girvar Singh Tomar has been reinstated to service after a 27‑year legal battle over a 1999 bicycle incident. He returned to duty last week following a high court order, having lived as a sadhu for two decades during the proceedings.
Girvar Singh Tomar, a havildar in the Central Reserve Police Force, lost his uniform in 1999 after a disputed bicycle incident. The matter led to disciplinary action and his removal from service. He then pursued his case through various courts while living as a sadhu for about twenty years.
Last week, a high court ruled in his favor, ordering his reinstatement. Following the judgment, Tomar discarded his sadhu robes, wore the crisp khaki uniform again, and reported back to his battalion. He has since returned home to his family.
The case highlights a prolonged legal struggle that spanned nearly three decades, ending with the paramilitary force accepting the court’s directive. Officials confirmed that his re‑joining was processed according to standard reinstatement procedures.
