The Crime Branch of Jammu and Kashmir convened a conference highlighting the growing threat of cyber‑enabled human trafficking and called for policies that prioritize victims.

Earlier this week the Crime Branch of Jammu and Kashmir organised a focused conference to address the surge in cyber‑enabled slavery and trafficking. Senior officials presented data indicating a sharp increase in online recruitment and exploitation of vulnerable individuals across the region.
The gathering underscored that perpetrators are increasingly using social media platforms, encrypted messaging apps and fake job portals to lure victims, making detection and rescue more challenging for law‑enforcement agencies.
Participants urged the state government to adopt a victim‑centric framework that includes rapid legal aid, psychological counselling, and rehabilitation programmes tailored to the digital nature of the crime. They also recommended stronger cyber‑monitoring mechanisms and tighter regulation of online advertising that can be misused for trafficking.
The conference concluded with a pledge to strengthen inter‑agency coordination, enhance training for cyber‑crime investigators, and launch public awareness campaigns that educate citizens about the signs of online exploitation.
