CPI(M) Leader Calls for All-Party Meeting on Tamil Nadu Secretariat Site Selection

CPI(M) spokesperson Shanmugam has publicly called on the Tamil Nadu government to convene an all‑party meeting to decide the site for the state’s new secretariat. The request was made during a press briefing in Chennai, where Shanmugam highlighted the need for a transparent, inclusive process.

The current secretariat, located in the heart of Chennai, has been deemed inadequate for the growing administrative demands of the state. Several alternative sites have been floated, including areas in Tirunelveli, Coimbatore and a new development zone on the outskirts of Chennai.

Shanmugam emphasized that any decision should involve all major political parties to ensure consensus and avoid future disputes. He also urged the government to release a detailed feasibility report before the meeting.

The Tamil Nadu government has yet to announce a date for the proposed meeting, but officials have indicated that the issue is a top priority in the upcoming cabinet session.
