The Communist Party of India (Marxist) has urged the National Highways Authority to suspend the twin‑tunnel construction in Shimla after cracks appeared in several local buildings.
The Communist Party of India (Marxist) has formally requested that the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) stop work on the twin‑tunnel project being undertaken in Shimla. The demand follows the observation of cracks in a number of residential and commercial structures in the city, which the party says raise serious safety concerns.
Party officials said the fissures could be linked to the ongoing tunnelling activities and that continuing the work without a thorough safety assessment would endanger lives and property. They have called for an immediate suspension of construction until a detailed engineering review is carried out.
