Communist Party of India activists in Jalandhar staged a demonstration against rising prices, destroying a puppet that symbolised the central government.
In the city of Jalandhar, members of the Communist Party of India organised a public protest to voice discontent over the surge in consumer prices. The rally attracted local residents who gathered at a central location to hear the party’s grievances.
During the demonstration, activists displayed a life‑size puppet representing the central government and subsequently set it ablaze, describing the act as a symbolic rejection of policies they say have fueled inflation.
The CPI framed the protest as a response to escalating costs of essential commodities, fuel and services, which they allege have disproportionately affected lower‑income households across Punjab.
Police officials reported that the demonstration remained largely peaceful apart from the symbolic burning, and no arrests or injuries were recorded.
