Couple loses ₹30 lakh to travel agents over bogus Canadian study visa admission

A husband borrowed ₹30 lakh from travel agents to secure a study visa for his wife to Canada, only to discover the college had no admission when she arrived.
A resident of Ludhiana, Punjab, took a loan of ₹30 lakh from local travel agents with the aim of obtaining a Canadian study visa for his wife. The amount was reportedly sourced as a short‑term credit to cover visa fees, tuition deposits and related travel expenses.
The couple travelled to Canada after the visa was granted, but upon arrival the wife found that the educational institution she had been told she was admitted to did not have any record of her enrollment. The college officials confirmed that no admission had been processed in her name.
The husband has now lodged a complaint with local police, alleging fraud by the travel agents who promised a guaranteed admission and visa. Authorities are investigating the case as a possible financial scam targeting aspiring overseas students, and have advised other applicants to verify institutional credentials before making payments.
