Singer Daler Mehndi’s appearance at the Kunjapuri Fair in Uttarakhand has ignited a public row, with critics questioning the suitability of his performance at the religious‑cultural event.
During the Kunjapuri Fair in Uttarakhand, popular Punjabi singer Daler Mehndi took the stage, delivering his trademark high‑energy numbers. The appearance quickly became the centre of a heated debate among attendees.
Several local residents and cultural groups voiced concerns that the singer’s modern pop style did not align with the fair’s traditional and religious atmosphere. While some festival‑goers appreciated the entertainment value, others argued that the performance was inappropriate for the occasion.
The Kunjapuri Fair, held annually at the Kunjapuri hill near Dehradun, draws large crowds of pilgrims and tourists. The recent controversy highlights the broader discussion about the place of contemporary popular music in India’s heritage festivals.
Authorities have noted the complaints and indicated that they will monitor the situation, though no official decision on future programming has been announced.
