Congress urges President to dismiss Madhya Pradesh CM Mohan Yadav over Vijay Shah case

The Madhya Pradesh Congress has demanded that the President dismiss Chief Minister Mohan Yadav and his cabinet after the central government refused to approve prosecution against minister Vijay Shah in the Colonel Souphia Kurashi case. A hearing on the matter is scheduled before the Supreme Court on August 31.
Madhya Pradesh Congress leader Jitu Patwari, the state party president, has written to the President of India seeking the removal of Chief Minister Mohan Yadav and his entire cabinet. The demand comes after the central government declined to grant sanction for prosecuting minister Vijay Shah in the high‑profile Colonel Souphia Kurashi case.
The Colonel Souphia Kurashi case involves allegations of misconduct linked to the army officer, and Vijay Shah, a senior minister in the Yadav government, has been named in the investigation. The Ministry of Home Affairs, however, has not approved the necessary legal action, prompting Congress to accuse the state administration of shielding the minister.
Patwari’s letter urges the President to exercise his constitutional authority to dismiss the state ministry, arguing that the refusal to sanction prosecution undermines the rule of law. The issue is set to be examined by the Supreme Court on August 31, when a hearing will consider the legal and procedural aspects of the prosecution sanction.
Political analysts say the move could intensify tensions between the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party in Madhya Pradesh and the opposition Congress, potentially reshaping the state's political landscape ahead of upcoming elections.
