Congress Stages Protest March in Bhopal Against FIR Filed on Rahul Gandhi

On Monday evening, Congress activists marched from Teen Shed to Roshanpura in Bhopal, denouncing the FIR lodged against Rahul Gandhi over the Halduwani remarks.
Congress workers assembled at the Teen Shed area of Bhopal on Monday evening and began a procession that stretched to Roshanpura, covering several kilometres through the city’s streets. The march, organised by the state unit of the party, was timed to coincide with the filing of a criminal complaint against senior leader Rahul Gandhi.
The FIR, registered in connection with Gandhi’s comments on the Halduwani controversy, has been portrayed by the party as an attempt to curb free speech. Party officials reiterated that the complaint is politically motivated and urged the authorities to withdraw it.
State Congress spokesperson Jitu Patwari addressed the crowd, accusing the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party of fostering an anti‑Dalit narrative. He argued that the FIR reflects a broader pattern of targeting leaders who raise Dalit issues, and called for solidarity among marginalized communities.
Police presence was noticeable along the route, but no major disturbances were reported. Local officials declined to comment on the legal aspects of the FIR, citing ongoing investigations.
The march adds to a series of confrontations between the Congress and the BJP in Madhya Pradesh, where both parties are vying for influence ahead of upcoming state elections.
