Congress Stages Protest in Jalandhar Over Halduwani Stage Purification Issue

Punjab Congress leaders staged a dharna in Jalandhar on Monday, condemning the alleged purification of the stage used during Mallikarjun Kharge’s speech in Halduwani, Uttarakhand, and accusing the BJP government.
On Monday, senior Punjab Congress figures gathered outside the state secretariat in Jalandhar to launch a dharna against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government. The protest was led by former chief minister Charanjit Singh Channi, former minister Pargat Singh and local leader Radhava, who claimed the BJP had interfered with the Congress event held in Uttarakhand.
The grievance stems from a speech delivered by Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge in Halduwani, Uttarakhand, where the stage was reportedly subjected to a "purification" ritual before the address. Party activists allege that the act was politically motivated, aimed at undermining the Congress narrative.
Channi, Pargat and Radhava surrounded the government building, demanding an explanation and a public apology from the BJP. They warned that continued interference would further erode the party’s ability to campaign freely in the region.
As of now, the BJP has not issued an official response, and local authorities have asked both sides to maintain law and order while the protest continues.
