The Congress party has accused the ruling BJP and its ideological partner RSS of scheming to reduce the number of parliamentary and assembly seats reserved for tribal communities in Jharkhand as part of the upcoming delimitation exercise.
Congress leaders on Monday alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh are coordinating to diminish the share of seats reserved for tribal communities in Jharkhand during the next delimitation round. The claim was reported by Rediff.com, citing statements made by senior Congress officials in Ranchi.
The delimitation process, mandated by the Election Commission, redraws constituency boundaries based on the latest census and can alter the number of seats earmarked for Scheduled Tribes. In a state where tribal representation has historically shaped legislative outcomes, any reduction could affect the political balance.
Congress has demanded a transparent, consultative approach to delimitation and warned that a unilateral move to cut tribal seats would undermine the constitutional safeguards for marginalized groups. The party has called for a parliamentary debate on the issue.
As of now, neither the BJP nor the RSS has issued an official response to the allegations, and the Election Commission has not commented on the matter.
