Congress activists in Jalandhar demonstrated against the UPI merchant discount rate, burning the Prime Minister's effigy and the party flag while chanting slogans against the Punjab government.

In Jalandhar, Punjab, Congress members organised a street protest targeting the Merchant Discount Rate (MDR) imposed on the Unified Payments Interface (UPI). The demonstrators set fire to an effigy of the Prime Minister as part of the demonstration. During the same event, the party's own flag was also ignited, symbolising heightened dissent.

The rally featured loud chants directed at the Punjab state government, with participants demanding a rollback of the MDR policy, which they claim burdens merchants and consumers alike. Police presence was reported, but no injuries or arrests were mentioned in the coverage.

The incident underscores growing political resistance to recent financial reforms and reflects broader tensions between the ruling party and opposition groups in the state.
