The Indian National Congress has appointed Kunwar Singh Nishad as its media chief for Uttar Pradesh, signalling a renewed focus on Dalit and Other Backward Class voters ahead of the 2027 state elections.

The Indian National Congress announced today that Kunwar Singh Nishad will take charge as the party's media chief for Uttar Pradesh. The appointment was made by the party's national leadership as part of its organisational overhaul in the state.

Nishad's elevation is being interpreted as a strategic move to strengthen the party's outreach among Dalit and Other Backward Class (MBC) communities. With the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections scheduled for 2027, Congress aims to rebuild its support base among these voter groups.

A Dalit leader with a background in party communications, Nishad has previously been involved in grassroots campaigns across the state. His new role will involve coordinating media strategy, messaging and coordination with local party units to project a more inclusive narrative.

Party officials said the decision reflects Congress's commitment to address the aspirations of marginalized sections and to present a credible alternative to the incumbent government ahead of the next electoral cycle.
