The Congress emerged as the largest party in Kekri’s municipal polls, winning 20 seats and 13,361 votes, but remains one seat shy of the 21‑seat majority.
The municipal elections in Kekri, a town in Ajmer district of Rajasthan, concluded with the Indian National Congress emerging as the single largest party. Congress secured 20 out of the 40 council seats, while the Bharatiya Janata Party won 18 seats and the Rashtriya Loktantrik Party captured the remaining two.
Vote tallies showed Congress receiving 13,361 votes, outpacing the BJP’s 12,286 votes by a margin of 1,075. The close contest reflected a competitive political landscape in the town, with both major parties vying for control of the local body.
Despite its lead, Congress fell just one seat short of the 21‑seat threshold required for an outright majority. Analysts suggest the party may need to seek support from the two RLP councillors or any independents to form the municipal board and appoint a mayor.
