Congress MP Nana Patole criticized the BRICS declaration for omitting references to China‑occupied Ladakh and Arunachal, urging the Prime Minister to demand China’s withdrawal at the summit.

India is set to attend the BRICS summit in Brazil, a gathering of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. The summit’s declaration was released yesterday, outlining cooperation on economic and geopolitical issues.

Congress MP Nana Patole took to the floor to criticize the document for not mentioning the territories of Ladakh and Arunachal Pradesh, which China claims and occupies. He urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to use the platform to demand China’s withdrawal from these regions.

Patole said that a clear statement from India would be the most significant benefit the country could gain from the summit. He added that the omission of the disputed areas was a glaring oversight.

The MP’s remarks come as India seeks to strengthen its position on border security and counter China’s influence in the region. Analysts say the statement may prompt the government to issue a more assertive stance during the BRICS talks.
