A Congress councillor was shot dead in Punjab after assailants chased his motorcycle and opened fire, police said.

Police officials said the assailants chased the bike before opening fire, indicating a pre‑meditated attack.
Senior Superintendent of Police Bhupinder Singh Sidhu told reporters that the incident stemmed from an old dispute between the two parties involved. He added that the attackers have been identified and dedicated teams have been formed to apprehend them.
Sidhu assured that the police will arrest the suspects at the earliest opportunity and that a thorough investigation is underway to uncover the motive and any wider network behind the killing.
