Sachin Pilot outlined Congress’s plan to contest the Punjab assembly polls as a united team, saying roles will be allocated after a majority is secured.
Congress has named senior leader Sachin Pilot as the new in‑charge of its Punjab operations, a move aimed at revitalising the party’s prospects ahead of the upcoming state assembly elections. In a press briefing, Pilot clarified that the party will field candidates across the board and that the entire campaign will be coordinated by a single, cohesive team.
He emphasized that once the party secures a majority, internal discussions will determine the allocation of responsibilities and ministerial portfolios. The approach, he said, is intended to avoid factionalism and present a united front to voters.
The announcement appears to have softened the stance of former Punjab chief minister Charanjit Singh Channi and senior leader Ravneet Singh Radhava, who had previously expressed reservations about the party’s direction. Both leaders have now signalled willingness to cooperate under Pilot’s leadership.
Analysts view Pilot’s appointment as an attempt to inject fresh energy into the Congress campaign in Punjab, where the party seeks to regain ground after a series of electoral setbacks.
